Location of Traquair

This romantic and grand old house with its profound air of Scottish History is one of the most famous castles in Scotland, and the oldest one to be continually lived in.

Originally owned by the kings of Scotland from at least 1107, it later became the home of the Stuart Earls of Traquair and is still lived in by their descendants.

Catherine Maxwell Stuart and her family welcome guests to stay for bed and breakfast - one bedroom is in the very old part of the house and the other two in the wing added in 1695. Each bedroom has its own bathroom.

Traquair stands amidst woodland and beautiful gardens near the river Tweed in South Scotland (Edinburgh 25 minutes). It is open to the public, has its own brewery producing fine Traquair House Ales, and has a programme of entertaining events throughout the year. Bed and breakfast guests are welcome to explore the woodland walks, the maze, the ancient yew trees by the Tweed or the old walled garden.
