Rhoda's Cottage

Strachur Estate
Loch Fyne
Argyll
West Coast Scotland

A delightful holiday cottage on Sir Charles Maclean's Highland estate at Strachur, Loch Fyne, Argyll.

Scotland Map

QuoteStrachur is a sleepy, charmingly traditional village on the north east shore of Loch Fyne - the longest sea loch in Scotland, famous the world over for its seafood and its outstanding natural beauty.

Rhoda's Cottage is a perfect place for relaxation and the leisurely exploration of West Scotland and the Inner Hebrides.

Full of character, decorated with a tasteful mixture of antique and modern furniture, it is personally run by my family. Staying here you have the freedom of our 2,000 acre estate, a haven of peace and timeless beauty in today's hectic world, where we invite you to feel at home.

It's the reason why our guests keep returning. Come and see for yourself. There's no place quite like Strachur.Unquote

Rhoda's Cottage

Strachur House

Rhoda's Cottage is attached to a wing of Strachur House, on the left in the photograph (right).

A fine Adam-style mansion, Strachur House was built by General John Campbell in the 1780s. It was visited by the composer Fredrick Chopin in 1848. From 1957 the house was home to the illustrious Scot, Sir Fitzroy Maclean, the soldier, diplomat and adventurer, who was said to have been the model for Ian Fleming's hero, James Bond. His family continues to live there.

Entance to the cottage

The cottage is entirely private with its own front entrance.

Lovingly decorated with antique yet practical furniture and pictures, Rhoda's Cottage has retained its charming, old-fashioned character.

The larger bedrooms overlook the spectacular formal gardens of Strachur House and out to the hills beyond.

The smaller bedroom has a view of Loch Fyne.
