Ardgarth Guest house

Ardgarth is a large Victorian house situated in a quiet street in Portobello, 2 minute's walk from the sea front and 3.5 miles from the centre of Edinburgh. It is the family home of Ursula and Richard Wright who welcome visitors to stay for bed and breakfast. French, Spanish and Italian are spoken.

They have ten bedrooms altogether, from single bedrooms to large family rooms, some with shared bathrooms (with showers) and some with private bathrooms (with showers) en suite. Two bedrooms on the ground floor are rated Category 1 Unassisted Access for the disabled, see details below.

Less expensive than accommodation in central Edinburgh, it has the advantage of unrestricted free parking, and a convenient and frequent (including all night) bus service a minute's walk away to and from Edinburgh city centre.

En Suite Rooms all have private Shower and WC.
All Standard Rooms have wash basins in the rooms, and there are two shared bathrooms with showers and WCs.
All bedrooms have TV and tea and coffee making facilities.
Cots, high chairs and baby listening can be arranged.

Breakfast is served in the Dining Room surrounded by Ursula's excellent collection of tea pots!

There's a choice of a full traditional Scottish cooked breakfast (with an accent on low-fat cooking), or a lighter Contintental style or Scandanavian breakfast.

Also; fresh coffee, Pain au Chocolat, Croissants, Brioche and toast.

Special diets are one of Ursula's specialities.


Throughout Ardgarth there is Wi-Fi broadband for laptops and also free internet access on the guests' computer in the guests' lounge.

Category 1 Unassisted Access for Disabled People

Disabled Access

Rooms for Disabled People: The ground floor accommodation is suitable for disabled people, and is accessible (with no steps) directly from the low pavement via a purpose-built ramp. The Scottish Tourist Board has graded the accommodation as Category 1 Unassisted Access.
There are two bedrooms with en-suite showers and WCs fully equipped for disabled people. The roll-in shower trays are flush/level with the floor enabling easy access by the wheeled shower chairs (provided). One of the rooms is a double and the other has twin beds. Bed blocks are available and power points are raised.
The dining room is on the same level as the bedrooms and the tables are of appropriate height and width. The public telephone is also at level access. All door openings are of ample width for wheel chairs.

Parking: Unrestricted street parking adjacent.
Entrance and approach: Ramp or 3 steps, handrail on inside (left) of ramp, to front door.
Bedrooms: 1 twin, door width 85 cm, 1 double, door width 77 cm, both with en-suite facilities (doors 85 cm) curtained shower area (level with floor, no step) with flip down seat for double room and shower chair with lockable wheels, hand rails around toilets. Bed blocks available, raised power points. All rooms are equipped with TV, tea/coffee facilities and hairdryers. French is spoken, and special diets can be catered for.
