Some images of Arran
The Island of Arran
Scotland
About Scotland Editor's Note; These photographs were taken when we stayed at Banlicken Farmhouse (rental).
Banlicken looks out over uninterrupted views west to The Mull of Kintyre and south west to the open Atlantic Ocean. It is just south of the most westerly point of the island and is 14 miles from the village of Brodick where the regular 55 minute ferry arrives from Ardrossan.
Ardrossan is an £18 taxi ride from Prestwick Airport (there are remarkably inexpensive flights with Ryanair from Europe).
Ardrossan is 40 minutes from Glasgow International Airport and has a connecting rail service from Glasgow.
Right;
Easun Biorach tumbling through the glen below Beinn Bhreac in the North of the island.
Close to Banlicken is another northern ferry link to The Mull of Kintyre that offers easy day trips to Campbeltown (Springbank Distillery - Scotlands most authentic and traditional) and to the islands of Gigha (wonderful gardens) and Bute (Marquess of Butes fantastic castle at Mountstuart), and to Oban.
Longer trips are easy to islands such as Islay (malt whisky heaven), while Arran itself has world famous hill walking (Goat Fell) and Brodick Castle.

Rockpools and mussel beds below Banlicken.
Two Mergansers and a curious seal.
9 Eider ducks progressing along the shore.
Right;
The ruins of Lochranza Castle at dusk. Lochranza is on the North of Arran, about 20 minute's drive from Banlicken.
Staying at Banlicken: an example trip to the Island of Gigha
Leave Banlicken at 9am for Lochranza ferry departure at 9.30am - arriving at Cloanaig at 10am. Drive to Tayinloan for 11am ferry to Gigha arriving at 11.20. Visit island and Achamore Gardens . Depart Gigha 5.30pm to catch ferry for Lochranza (Arran) arriving on Arran at 7.30pm and returning to Banlicken for 8pm. This would allow 6 hours on Gigha.
