Craigdhu Farmhouse

Set back from a small road which goes to the end of the Craignish peninsular Craigdhu is a traditional farmhouse built around a courtyard, and takes its name from the impressive black basalt rock immediately behind the house (craig: crag - dhu: black). It is surrounded by lawns with almost an acre of garden to explore and only yards from the sea-loch Loch Craignish. Craigdhu is ideal for a holiday at any time of the year.

Once the main farmhouse of the surrounding Barbreck Estate Craigdhu has now been renovated to provide self-catering rental accommodation for up to nine (five bedrooms and three bathrooms).

The village shop is less than a mile down the road and there are many good restaurants within an easy drive.

There is no shortage of things to do nearby. Argyll has some of the best gardens in Scotland with the famous Arduaine Garden only three miles up the road. Kilmartin Glen, just over the hill to the south, is the richest area on mainland Scotland for prehistoric sites, with chambered cairns, stone circles, standing stones and great slabs of rock with enigmatic prehistoric carvings. There is also a wide choice of boat trips, some excellent golf courses, good trout fishing, horse riding and interesting walks.

The large myrtle, camellias, tree heaths and early flowering rhododendrons give the courtyard special character. In front of the house, protected by an escallonia hedge, are many delicate and unusual plants from the Mediterranean and New Zealand. The shrubbery (azaleas, hydrangeas and viburnum) has great views over the loch. Garden furniture and a portable BBQ.
